Beinn Ghlas & Ben Lawers

This was to be me and Steve White’s first 2 Munro’s on a beautiful sunny day. It was a 6am early start from Edinburgh as we drove North and then stopped off for pictures at Kenmore overlooking Loch Tay.

We started the walk from the NTS Ben Lawers Reserve car park at 430m high. There was a temporary inversion above the clag over Loch Tay as we followed the tourist path, NE up passed old shielings and a few false summits to the summit of Beinn Ghlas, 1103m and our first Munro.

From the summit of Beinn Ghlas, we followed the obvious path, descending down to the top at 1084m before following the ridge up to the summit of Ben Lawers, 1214m and our second Munro where we stopped for lunch and to admire the views. It was a clear day and we could see for miles although the mist did appear at the summit for a brief moment before clearing. We contemplated doing the Lawers horseshoe but decided to return via the same route and the average time was 5 hours on a fine warm day.
