Lyon Circuit Wild Camp: 20km, 8hrs 54 mins
Been meaning to do this circuit for a while and was saving it for ma pal Graham. It was his first walk since the birth of his wee baby boy. He wanted a wild camp as he hoped to get a good nights sleep after his sleepless nights with the wee one. Left the car park at 4pm & followed the diversion signs easily enough due to the Hydro works & made our way NW to Carn Gorm. As usual the clag lifted from the summit as we descended Carn Gorm. We headed on NE towards Meall Garbh. Looking at the map beforehand we planned to camp by the lochan at the East side of Meall Garbh. Dave suggested we camp on the flat West side before the summit. It was fairly windy & Thursdays forecast was 20mph South Westerly. We prob would've got battered. Looked a good spot mind you but one for better weather. Ditched the bags at the spot anyway to see if we could see the wee lochan from the summit. Headed back to pick up the bags then back up the summit again before descending down towards the wee lochan. Found a flat dry bit not far from the lochan & pitched up our tents. Dave brought his tarp with him. 15 bucks from decathlon. Got it up with the 4 walking poles & it came in handy as a shelter to keep the wind away from our cooking.
It was a cold & fairly windy night with showers in the morning. The cloud was down as we had breakfast, packed up & headed onwards. Heads down and trudged on East in the clag to Carn Mairg. The ridge narrowed as we got to the rocky summit. We headed South East then South to the next bealach, carefully to avoid the crags. The clag started to lift as we made our way up to the final summit, Creag Mhor. We headed over the West Top & then descended SW back to the start.
