(16.10.16) Windy Gyle & the Cheviot: 21.5km. 6hrs,57min. 708m
ascent
Me & Robin fancied heading down to the Cheviot Hills for the day. Started the walk at Cocklawfoot and headed South then East on the track to the summit of Windy Gyle 610m. We headed in a NE direction following border ridge fence posts, jumping in & out of England, to the summit of Kings Seat Hill 531m. The path followed on to Score Head, Crookedsike Head before Cairn Hill & then the summit of the Cheviot. 815m. The path was like a pavement, millstone grit, on the Penine Way to the Cheviot. The surrounding terrain was very peat boggy. It was an impressive monolith at the summit. We backtracked SW to point 743 at the border ridge, then NW to Auchope Cairn 726m, visited the Mountain Refuge Hut at 498m & SW back to Cocklawfoot. It was a wet and windy day.
